Chief Executive Officer

Lorraine Stiehl was named CEO of the American Liver Foundation in January 2021. A successful non-profit leader for over three decades, Ms. Stiehl serves on the National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Advisory Board at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a public health leader at both the state and federal levels, Ms. Stiehl advocates for strengthening disease prevention efforts, and supporting patients battling chronic diseases and their healthcare providers.

Ms. Stiehl worked both professionally and as a national volunteer leader for numerous non-profits, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) where she contributed to the organization’s growth from $6 million to over $200 million – earning top honors as “National Staff Member of the Year” (1992) and “National Volunteer of the Year” (2010). Ms. Stiehl also worked for nearly two decades at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), providing leadership in fundraising development, marketing and communications and clinical trial recruitment.

Through her family’s consulting firm, StiehlWorks, Lorraine provided marketing, communications, fundraising and advocacy support to dozens of national non-profits and medical research organizations. In 2017, Lorraine and co-author, Dr. Nicole Johnson (Miss America 1999), published, “What To Do When Your Partner Has Diabetes: A Survival Guide.”

As a lifelong caregiver, Ms. Stiehl knows first-hand how chronic disease impacts families. Her husband Chris has been living with an autoimmune disease for more than 60 years and an organ transplant for 12 years. Highly motivated to support deserving non-profit organizations, Ms. Stiehl has raised millions of charitable dollars including funds she has generated through dozens of half-marathons and cycling events.

David Ticker

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

David Ticker is the Executive Vice President, and assumed the position of Chief Financial Officer of the American Liver Foundation on February 11, 2008. He was nominated and confirmed as Treasurer in October 2008. Mr. Ticker graduated from the University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School of Business in 1980 with a degree in Accounting and received his CPA from Pennsylvania in 1982. After graduation, Mr. Ticker embarked on a career which as has included stints in public accounting, private industry and not-for-profits.

Mr. Ticker brings to ALF a broad base of experience solving problems and applying common sense to the accounting and finance process. His public accounting background includes 5 years in New York City with Price Waterhouse & Co. and Kenneth Leventhal & Co. performing audit, tax and consulting assignments for closely held clients. His work for Kenneth Leventhal & Co. in the real estate industry served as stepping stone to his next position with the global real estate developer Olympia & York. At O&Y, his financial analyst portfolio included the World Financial Center and One Liberty Plaza with his primary responsibility being the interpretation of the 99 year ground lease with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

After gaining a solid background in accounting, taxes and finance in the public accounting field, Mr. Ticker accepted a Vice President position in private industry with a domestic textile firm. For the next 13 years, he was responsible for operations, back office support, supply chain management, sales, advertising and product development for the company as it expanded into importing yarn for U.S. distribution from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, South America and Indonesia. Upon leaving the textile industry, Mr. Ticker transitioned his career to the not-for-profit sector when he accepted the position as Director of Finance for The First Occupational Center of New Jersey, New Jersey’s largest and oldest sheltered workshop retraining displaced workers and providing workplace solutions for the handicapped.

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Ticker is involved with social action issues in Northern New Jersey through his temple, the UJA Federation of Metrowest. He has served on the Boards of his temple, nursery school and men’s club.

Julie Kimbrough

Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Julie comes to ALF from the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) as their Vice President of Marketing, Communications & Public Affairs.  In this role she oversaw activities to promote, enhance and protect the brand and designed strategies to advance marketing, advocacy and fundraising objectives. She was responsible for the oversight, development, integration and implementation of a broad range of communications and marketing initiatives throughout the organization across all platforms. Prior to her role at NKF she served as a strategic consultant to dozens of nonprofits focused on healthcare and advocacy, as the National Director of Media Relations for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation leading communications for the foundation and its 100 chapters and affiliates worldwide, as the Managing Director of a boutique public relations firm focused on Asian affairs, and as the Media and NGO Liaison Officer for a United Nations agency focused on hunger and poverty alleviation.

Julie has extensive professional experience in strategic communications and public affairs and has dedicated her career to working on health and humanitarian causes.

Heidi Daniels

Vice President, Development

Heidi comes to ALF from Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County where she created annual development plans including annual giving, special events, individual giving and grants in the Boston, Massachusetts area.  Prior to working at Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County, she was VP of Development at Pine Street Inn (PSI) and before that she was an Executive Director at JDRF in the Northeast Chapter.

Heidi has done a tremendous amount of work in developing core programs and researching grants while maintain strong relationships with a broad spectrum of donors.  Heidi has expansive experience in securing major gifts, advising local fundraising organizations and has also raised significant funds through both pharma and non-pharma industry partners.
