Volunteer

Advocacy Ambassadors are committed to improving the lives of liver disease patients. They do that by advancing the American Liver Foundation’s (ALF) legislative priorities and advocating for change in government policies. They build and maintain strong relationships with their state and federal legislators as well as fellow ALF Advocates. Advocacy Ambassadors raise awareness and educate the public through participation in ALF initiatives in coordination with ALF staff and volunteer leaders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Sign up for ALF Advocacy emails and respond to Calls-to-Action
• Maintain relationships and interact with state and federal legislators and their staff throughout the year; invite them to events as appropriate
• Request and coordinate meetings with state and federal legislators or staff as needed
• Recruit ALF Advocates to attend meetings to share their story with legislators
• Track and record summaries of legislator meetings, phone conversations, and other pertinent information upon completion of activity
• Stay apprised of ALF legislative priorities: attend virtual legislative briefings, read monthly newsletter, participate in Ambassador team calls/meetings
• Advise Ambassador Team Chair of local public awareness opportunities (e.g. Town Hall meetings, health fairs, partner organization walks) and coordinate to ensure ALF representation
• Participate in outreach event opportunities to educate others about ALF and encourage them to get involved (This includes attending an ALF Liver Life Walk if nearby.)

Qualifications

• Willingness to maintain a broad understanding of ALF and its mission
• Interest in and basic understanding (or willingness to learn) about the legislative process
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups of people
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and with others to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
• Have access to a computer, webcam and microphone, email, internet, and phone

Time Commitment

The time commitment varies month to month depending on advocacy initiatives and priorities. Terms last two years, but may be extended.

Provide updates to your state Ambassador Team Chair (ATC); share event stories and photos as appropriate

Training & Support

An orientation to ALF and the volunteer program are provided and followed by training opportunities throughout the year. Regular virtual meetings will also take place to provide updates to all Ambassadors. You’ll have access to your state Ambassador Team Chair (ATC) and ALF staff for questions and support. ALF will always ensure that you have the tools necessary to fulfill this critical role in our Ambassador community.

State Ambassador Team Chairs (ATCs) prioritize relationship building to strengthen and grow the presence of the American Liver Foundation (ALF) throughout their state. Working closely with their Ambassador Leadership Team (ALT) partner, they identify ways to bring together ALF priorities and initiatives in their state. They guide, support, and inspire a statewide team of empowered volunteers who conduct a variety of advocacy and outreach activities in their local communities to help educate the public about liver disease and advance the mission of the ALF.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Build, connect, and mobilize a cross-functional group of statewide volunteers in areas of advocacy and outreach
• Maintain regular communication with Ambassador Team to coordinate and track activities, share information and resources, and keep members engaged
• Equip team members with the tools they need to fulfill their responsibilities and request support of ALF staff as needed
  Form relationships and interact with legislators and their staff throughout the year; invite them to events as appropriate
• Communicate regularly with Ambassador Leadership Team partner and/or ALF staff partner to provide feedback, ask questions, request resources
• Stay apprised of ALF legislative priorities: attend virtual legislative briefings, read monthly newsletter, participate in Ambassador team calls/meetings
• Participate in Advocacy initiatives, action alerts, and other programs as needed
• Identify and designate Ambassadors to take part in awareness opportunities such as legislator Town Hall events, community and partner events, etc.
• Attend outreach event opportunities to educate others about ALF and encourage them to get involved (This includes attending an ALF Liver Life Walk if nearby.

• Have strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

The American Liver Foundation (ALF) National Events Auction Committee takes an active role in supporting the organization’s fundraising efforts by helping ALF secure auction items valued at $250+. Committee members will assist by asking personal contacts to donate or underwrite auction items for ALF events. Examples of auction items include: tablets, smartphones, smart TVs, headphones/ear buds, gaming systems, fitness devices, signed sports memorabilia, home fitness equipment, artwork, home décor, designer fashion accessories, jewelry, vacation packages, and unique experiences.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with ALF staff and committee members to identify, build, and maintain relationships with companies and individuals committed to supporting ALF’s auction and events through the donation of items
• Generate new and creative ways to bring in night/day-of-revenue
• Identify, develop, and implement term-goal projects for each event
• Secure tangible items that appeal to a variety of individuals and that can be used as stand-alone items or in a package to create a fun and exciting experience
• Help meet/exceed the budgeted revenue goal for auction items
• Assist with one ALF event (in-person or virtually, depending on location)
• Attend regular meetings held via Zoom

Qualifications

• Comfortable reaching out to corporations and/or personal contacts via phone and email
• Experience asking for donations on behalf of a non-profit organization
• Familiarity with mobile bidding platforms is a plus
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)

Time Commitment

Dedicate approximately 20 hours per quarter for 1 full calendar year; some nights and weekend hours may apply
