Caregiver for Wife…

My wife, Helen Meijer, had a liver transplant at Tampa General Hospital in July 2005 (acute liver failure). Her new liver worked well for about 6 years. For the past 1 1/2 years the liver deteriorated and she passed away at age 64 in early January 2013, very recently. Despite being on lactulose and 2 x 550 mg of Xifaxan daily she had several severe bouts of HE and ended up at Tampa General Hospital for 2 x 2 week stays in November and December 2012. I have been her full-time caregiver for the past several years and watched her gradual liver failure and bouts of light, moderate and severe HE, the latter resulting in the above mentioned hospitalization.
