The American Liver Foundation has a wealth of information about liver disease prevention, screening/testing and treatment. We operate a National Helpline to answer your questions and three educational websites, including two that are dedicated to Hepatitis C and Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE). We host webinars on a variety of liver conditions, featuring renowned physicians and dedicated patient advocates. The American Liver Foundation also provides resources about discounts for medications and community forums where patients and families can interact with others who share their experiences.

Educational and Support Materials

ALF produces educational materials on 31 liver health topics – available to the public at no cost — including biliary atresia, cirrhosis, hepatitis C, fatty liver disease and liver cancer. We also offer information about liver wellness and practical issues, such as diet and liver health, managing medications, what to do when you are newly diagnosed and financial assistance resources.

Many of the materials are available in 12 languages, including Spanish, Chinese and Russian.

We understand that when you, a family member or friend is newly diagnosed with a liver disease, you may have many questions and concerns, including how to find a doctor, learn about the latest treatments and referrals to information about clinical trials. The American Liver Foundation is here to help. Our Helpline operates from 9:00 am – 7:00 pm EST Mondays through Fridays and is staffed by trained specialists who assist more than 4,000 people each year. For callers with limited English proficiency, the Helpline offers interpretation services in 12 languages.

American Liver Foundation Drug Discount Card

The American Liver Foundation is pleased to announce a partnership with NeedyMeds, a national, nonprofit organization that maintains a website of free information on programs that help individuals who cannot afford medications and healthcare costs. The partnership provides a free ALF Drug Discount Card for uninsured and underinsured patients and their families.

The Drug Discount Card is accepted at more than 63,000 pharmacies nationwide, including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid and at many regional chains and local stores.

There are no income, insurance or residency requirements, and no fees or registration process needed to use the card, which can also be used for over-the-counter medications and medical supplies if written on a prescription form provided to you by a healthcare provider
