Natasha D.

Hepatitis C
My name is Natasha and I am a 36 year old transplant survivor. I am happy to say that this makes me have two birthdays, one on December 19, 2010 and the other on December 28, 1979. However, this was not how I always felt. During my sophomore year of undergrad, I was told I had Hepatitis C, but they weren’t sure how. Due to all of the bad media on Hepatitis, I automatically felt dirty and ashamed. After lots of testing, they found it was not through sex or anything hygienic. Over the years I went through many changes, lots of different medications, I was put on a transplant list, my body went through numerous changes, and so did my marriage. My job(s) would be affected, the way others seen me, and most of all; my children were forever changed. Today, I still go through ups and downs because I have not stabilized, I take an average of 26 pills a day, but I am alive and able to see my children grow. Along with this I am owning more of what I went through, what I am going through, and where I want to be in the future. Cheers to more years to come!
