Alcohol-Related Liver Disease
Two years ago I couldn’t catch my breath so I went to the ER. Five days later I went home with a diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. I brought this on myself with drinking to much over a long period of time. This was a problem for me to get past, a feeling my stupidity caused the problem and as such I deserved no extended help.
As time went by and other issues arose related to the failing liver a depression set in. It came to a head because of unrelated things happening and I sought some mental health care. I learned there, that while the problem was related to my actions it may have other causes beyond that.
Don’t completely blame yourself for these things, it will further hinder your health. As time goes by other issues will arise due to the failing liver, be prepared and roll with the punches as they come. I think most importantly never let go of your sense of humor. it is a powerful ally in your health and hopeful recovery. I believe that if I ever lose my sense of humor my battle may be lost. Anger and Depression are going to happen but if you can laugh it helps defuse them.
Try to take some charge in your care. Learn what the doctors are talking about. Keep notes of what you need to bring up at doctor visits. Anything you can chart or keep track of may help.
