Dr. Anna Suk-Fong Lok Announced as 2015 ALF Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award Recipient

Dr. Lok has made important contributions to the understanding of the natural history of chronic HBV infection and the evaluation of new treatments for hepatitis B and hepatitis C. She led one of the earliest clinical trials on interferon therapy for hepatitis B in the early 1980s. She was the lead PI in the first clinical trial demonstrating that interferon-free direct-acting antiviral combination can lead to sustained virologic response in patients with hepatitis C.

Dr. Lok has published more than 400 papers on viral hepatitis and liver diseases including 4 iterations of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) guidelines on “Hepatitis B”. Dr. Lok has mentored more than 30 fellows and junior faculty from all over the world, many of whom are now full Professors and Chiefs of Hepatology Programs.
